Year 1

Classes :
Year 1 (Class Teacher – Mrs Hambrier)

Learning Goal:   Autumn 2017

Autumn 2017 flow chart outlines the details of our topics and curriculum content for this term.  This half term it will be ‘ Funny bones’ and the second half will be ‘Colour’.  Funny Bones cover all elements of ourselves: who we are, our lives, our senses, our bodies and feelings.

A few reminders:

Book bags need to be brought to school every day with the guided reading and record books in the plastic wallet provided. Guided reading books are sent home weekly and should be re-read together.  Please write a comment in your child’s Reading Record Book. Please read to your child a range of books and talk about the book. Comprehension is a big part of reading as well as decoding, so please ask lots of question. Children can also borrow books from the class library and change them as often as they wish.  Please encourage your child to do this.  You are very welcome to come into the classroom after school and choose a book together.

Phonics is a major part of our learning as it helps with reading and writing. There are many websites that you can access to help support your child’s learning; please visit the websites and if you need any support with this do pop in and ask.

The children will need a named water bottle each day and also a healthy snack for playtime.  Suitable snacks are fruit, vegetables, cheese and cereal bars.

Please ensure that all items of clothing, including school uniform and full PE Kit are clearly labelled with your child’s name.  PE kit consists of a red school tee shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls for indoor sessions.

Each week a Discovery task will be set for homework; this is based on practical, research, and/or projects, to build language, reasoning, explanation and problem solving skills.  Spelling homework will also be issued from January onwards along with talk for writing.

Please call in and see us if you have any questions or email: mhambrier’@’

Yours sincerely,

Ms M Hambrier                                Mrs C Brown

  • Welcome

We offer you a warm welcome and thank you for showing an interest in Spring Grove Primary School.

Spring Grove is a happy school with a positive and inclusive ethos, within which we aim to make everyone feel safe, secure and valued. We are proud of our diverse cultural community and encourage all children to achieve their personal best, academically and socially. We believe that children flourish when home and school work together. We encourage parents to become involved in their children’s education and the life of the school. We aim to work with parents and carers to develop caring attitudes, thoughtfulness, mutual respect, self discipline, self confidence and good manners alongside academic progress. We treat all of our pupils as unique individuals who will become independent learners and view their education as a positive experience.
