Year 3 (Class Teacher – Ms Goodwin)
Learning Goal: Autumn 2017
Our topic for this term is ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’. The children will be learning about a very long period of history and how it changed the landscape of Britain. Alongside this, we will be studying a range of different texts and learning about rocks, soils and fossils. The attached topic web gives further information of the learning targets for each of the curriculum areas.
Your child will continue to have daily Maths and English lessons and a Guided Reading session each week. Each child will also have the opportunity to choose a library book on a regular basis. Please talk to them about their reading and make time for reading and sharing books every day. Please continue to hear your child read and keep a record of their reading in their yellow reading record. Parents play a vital role in their children’s development of reading skills, fluency and confidence and the value of regular practice cannot be stressed enough.
Homework will be set on Friday and should be handed in the following Wednesday. Occasionally, there will be a longer task with a later hand in date. Please support and encourage your child with homework tasks which will consolidate their learning in class.
Each week, the children will also be set a comprehension activity linked to their Guided Reading book; this is to be completed and handed in during their next reading session. This task is important to demonstrate and deepen your child’s understanding and will be discussed during the session. Guided Reading books should be bought into school every day.
Book bags should be brought upstairs to the classroom each morning and all other possessions left on the coat pegs downstairs. Children may also bring a healthy snack and water bottle up to the classroom if they wish.
PE will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, but please ensure that all items of PE kit are labelled and in school at all times. During the colder weather, black tracksuits and trainers can be worn for outside games.
If there is anything you wish to discuss with me, I am available after school, once the children have been dismissed. If the issue is likely to take a little longer to discuss then please telephone or email to make an appointment. My email is at the top of this letter and I am happy to help in any way I can.
I am sure we are going to have a happy and successful year together. The children have already made a great start!
Thank you for your continued support.
