Year 4

Classes :
Year 4 (Class Teacher – Ms Griffiths)

Learning Goal:    Autumn 2017

Autumn 2017 flow chart outlines the work Year 4 pupils will cover this term. Our topic theme is ‘Extravagant Egyptians’. If you would like to contribute ideas to the topic, please let me know. The children will continue to have daily Maths, Science and English lessons, as shown on the topic web.

The children will be encouraged to change a free choice library book independently on a regular basis. They will also continue to bring home a guided reading book once a week (although it depends on the length of the book). Please continue to read and discuss a wide range of books with your child at home as this time spent with your child is invaluable to their progress. Books must be returned to school before another one can be sent home. Please ensure that your child brings their guided reading book and class library book into school every day. The children also have a new green reading journal book where they will be given a task to do to reinforce their reading comprehension skills. This book replaces the yellow reading record book.

Homework  – Homework will be given out once a week; this will be set on a Friday and collected the following Wednesday and will consist of spellings and also either writing, maths or other areas of the curriculum such as topic work.  The children will have a spelling test on Fridays.

P.E.– Please ensure that your child has a fully labelled P.E. kit in school from Monday to Friday each week. In addition to this, your child will also be going swimming on Tuesday mornings. If your child is unable to do PE or swim at any time, please ensure you let the school know in writing. PE is an important part of the curriculum to help the children keep fit and healthy.

Miss Goddard is our new teaching assistant who will be working with us this year. If you have any queries about the Year 4 curriculum or wish to discuss your child, please feel free to make an appointment for an informal meeting after school at a time convenient to us both. I look forward to meeting you all at the first parent’s evening, details of which will be sent out nearer the time. Any support in the classroom would be most welcome, if you have some spare time.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.  In the meantime, I would like to thank you in advance for your support. We are looking forward to having an enjoyable and rewarding Autumn Term.

Thank you for your continued support.
