Reception (Class Teacher – Ms Moore)
Learning Goal: Autumn 2017
On our home visits we found that a lot of children’s favourite toys/books were based on dolls, Princesses, cars and planes. As we always try and plan topics based on the children’s interests, we have decided to start the term by covering the topic of ‘Disney’. The Topic Web overleaf shows the whole range of things we will be focusing on this term. As you can see, a really full term has been planned. We have asked the children for their ideas to add to this topic and now we would like yours! If you have any ideas that you would like to contribute please let us know.
As I mentioned on home visits we do not give homework to Reception children but you will be kept informed of what we are doing each week through our weekly letter, with suggestions for follow up activities that you can do to support your child’s learning at home.
Your child will use his/her book bag to bring home books to share with you. We encourage the children to change their books every day, so please remember to send your child’s book bag in with them each day. When we start guided reading, your child will also be given a guided reading book that they keep all week and is changed by me. We ask that your child reads their guided read to you every night. We request that you write a comment in your child’s home/school reading record to let us know how your child is reading at home.
We see parents as partners in their child’s education so if you see your child doing something that they, or you are proud of or trying something new at home please take a photograph, write a note or draw a picture of them doing it and bring it in to school. You can also send pictures to me via the email address at the bottom of this letter. We like to include both children’s home, and school achievements in their Learning Journey (a folder with significant achievements made by your child over the year).
In Reception we love to cook as part of our learning. In order for us to do so, we request a £3 termly donation from each child. Please send in your child’s donation in an envelope marked with their name. Thank you in advance for this.
We will be doing PE once a week and this term it will be on a Tuesday. We do PE in vests and pants in Reception so no extra clothing is needed. If your child would like to wear a pair of shorts for PE, they may bring them in or wear them under their uniform on Tuesdays. Please could you ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled (including tights and shoes) with your child’s name as we cannot guarantee that the children will come home in their own clothes unless this is done!
Please come and see us if you have any concerns or queries. We look forward to a busy and stimulating term.
Thank you for your support.
